Canadian Citizenship
The final step in your journey. We help eligible permanent residents prepare for the citizenship test and assemble their documents.
Becoming a Canadian Citizen
In order to acquire citizenship in Canada, there are a few things to keep in mind.
To become a Canadian citizen, applicants must:
- be a permanent resident
- have lived in Canada for at least 3 out of the last 5 years (1,095 days)
- have filed their taxes
- pass a citizenship test
- prove their language skills in English or French
Following the application, one must appear for a test. The test shows what you know about Canada.
When appearing for the test, carry the following documents:
- Notice to Appear
- PR identification card (if you had one)
- One form of identification featuring your picture and signature, such as a health card or driver's licence
- Foreign ID documents must be government-issued (Canadian ones don't need to be government-issued)
- If not in English or French, provide a translation with an affidavit from the translator, along with all passports and travel documents you listed on the application form, both current and expired
- Any certificates, diplomas, degrees, or transcripts that attest to your proficiency in either English or French
